We’re Hiring (volunteer) VPs!

Summer is here, and Young Urban Farmers CSA is growing in the gardens and as an organization. We’re looking for motivated self-starters who work well as part of a team and are looking for a chance to develop their leadership and management experience. We want people who are passionate about fresh and local food, who are looking for a challenging and rewarding experience, and who want an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Volunteers in our executive level positions will have the opportunity to manage key projects, gain valuable hands-on experience, and make a real difference in a young and growing organization. We are looking for help with sales, marketing, fundraising, IT, and finance as follows:

Vice President Sales: The VP Sales will be responsible for all aspects of the YUF CSA sales process. Strong interpersonal skills, an outgoing personality, and a passion for gardening are crucial to success in this role. Duties and responsibilities include generating sales leads for homeowners/individuals to donate their land for our services (using both new and existing sales processes); engaging new and returning customers to participate in our CSA service; administering and overseeing direct marketing and cold calling; booking and delivering sales presentations; managing customer relationships; implementing the overall sales strategy; as well as managing, training, and overseeing a team of direct marketers. The VP Sales will work from November to May for 4 to 10 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required.

Vice President Marketing: The VP Marketing will be responsible for the marketing strategy of YUF CSA, including both traditional and new media opportunities. This position is especially relevant for anyone looking to get into the marketing field and gain practical real-world experience. Duties and responsibilities include administering advertising and publicity and managing media contacts; developing and executing the public relations (PR) strategy; delivering and managing PR material, such as press releases and media kits; creating and implementing a branding strategy; as well as developing and carrying out the social media strategy. The VP Marketing will contribute 4 to 10 hours per week on an ongoing basis with a flexible work schedule.

Vice President Grants/Fundraising: The VP Grants/Fundraising will be responsible for the fundraising efforts of YUF CSA. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required in interacting with potential commercial, private, and government donors. This position provides great exposure for creative writers and individuals looking to develop their technical writing. Duties and responsibilities include identifying and researching potential grants from various sources of funding; applying for government grants and sponsorship; pursuing private donations and in-kind sponsors; writing and preparing applications or proposals; as well as building and maintaining business-to-business relationships. The VP Grants/Fundraising will contribute 4 to 10 hours per week with a flexible work schedule. The majority of the work must be completed between November and April.

Vice President IT/Web: The VP IT/Web will be responsible for YUF CSA’s web design and development. The main tasks include the setup and maintenance of our website and the implementation of long-term infrastructure for future growth and development. Duties and responsibilities include building and maintaining the website, including blog posts, event listings, and general news; developing a customer database and infrastructure; as well as integrating and coordinating logistics with other VPs. The VP IT/Web will initially build the website and database as a top priority and subsequently provide ongoing IT support on a flexible schedule.

Vice President Finance: The VP Finance is responsible for all of the financial aspects related to running YUF CSA. Attention to detail, superior organizational skills, and financial experience are required. The VP Finance must communicate financial information to key stakeholders on an ongoing basis, thereby ensuring the financial viability of the organization. Duties and responsibilities include creating the budget and forecasting ongoing operations; managing the bank account and cash flows; reporting on financial status; preparing financial statements and projections; as well as utilizing the industry’s best practices. The VP Finance will contribute 4 to 10 hours per week on an ongoing basis with a flexible work schedule.
